LS Engine Products Perth: Your Complete Guide to Building a High-Performance LS

The LS engine family is the most popular performance platform in Australia - and for good reason. Lightweight, compact, powerful, and massively supported by the aftermarket, an LS engine can be built to almost any power level for street, strip, or circuit use. BYE Performance in Perth is your one-stop source for LS engine parts, LS builds, and the expertise to put it all together.

Why the LS Platform Dominates Australian Performance

General Motors' LS engine family first appeared in the 1997 model year Corvette and was introduced to Australia in the 1999 Holden Commodore VT as the LS1. From the 5.7L LS1 and LS6 through to the 6.0L LS2 and L98, the 6.2L LS3 and LSA, and the 7.0L LS7, every member of the family shares a common architecture - which means parts, knowledge, and upgrades are interchangeable to a significant degree.

The LS is also famously light, producing more power per kilogram than almost any other V8 architecture. This makes LS swaps extremely popular in everything from classic muscle cars to modern European platforms.

LS1, LS2, LS3: What's the Difference?

LS1 (5.7L) - The original Australian LS. Found in VT–VZ Commodores (1999–2006). Cathedral port heads. Strong foundation for performance builds.

LS2 (6.0L) - Larger bore and stroke than LS1. Found in VZ Commodore (2005–2006), HSV models, and international GM applications. More torque and power from the same architecture.

L98 / L76 / L77 (6.0L) - Australian-specific variants for VE/VF Commodores. Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) on L98/L76/L77 requires a DOD delete kit for performance builds.

LS3 (6.2L) - Rectangular port heads, higher compression. Standard in VE/VF SSV, HSV, and Corvette. Considered the sweet spot for power/cost on a naturally aspirated or supercharged build.

LSA (6.2L supercharged) - Factory supercharged variant used in HSV ClubSport R8 LSA and similar models. Uses Eaton TVS1900 supercharger from the factory. Common upgrade target for Harrop TVS2650 supercharger kits.

LS Swaps: Putting an LS Where It Doesn't Belong (and Making It Work)

LS swaps are enormously popular - the engine finds its way into everything from classic Holdens and Fords to Nissan R33/R34 GT-Rs, Mazda RX-7s, Toyota Supras, and even European platforms. BYE Performance has experience with a wide range of LS swap applications and can supply parts, build the engine, wire the ECU, and tune the finished product.
