VCM OTR Cold Air Intake Kits: The Best Over-the-Radiator Intake for Your LS Commodore

If you own an LS-powered Holden Commodore - whether it's a VT, VX, VY, VZ, VE, or VF - the VCM OTR (Over-The-Radiator) cold air intake is one of the most popular and effective bolt-on upgrades available. Designed and manufactured in Australia specifically for Australian V8 Commodores, the VCM OTR is the go-to first performance modification for thousands of Commodore owners. BYE Performance Perth stocks and fits the full VCM OTR range.

What Is an OTR Intake and Why Does It Work?

OTR stands for Over-The-Radiator - a reference to the physical location of the intake housing, which sits above the radiator at the front of the engine bay, away from the heat-soaked engine bay air that the stock airbox breathes from. By drawing air from the cooler, denser air at the front of the vehicle, the OTR intake consistently delivers a lower intake air temperature to your engine compared to the factory setup.

Cooler intake temperatures mean denser air, more oxygen, and the ability for your tune to run more fuel and/or ignition timing - all of which translates to more power and better engine response.

Why VCM? Designed in Australia for Australian Commodores

VCM Performance engineered the OTR from the ground up for Australian-spec Commodores. The fitment is precise - everything is designed to work with Australian vehicle configurations, and the result is a product that installs cleanly and looks factory. Constructed from OEM-quality plastic (not the fibreglass or budget materials used in cheaper alternatives), the VCM OTR integrates neatly into the engine bay with infill panels, fascia panels, and hood inserts that complete the look.

The VCM OTR Range Covers Every LS Commodore

VCM makes specific OTR kits for every major LS Commodore generation:

VT, VX, VY, VZ - LS1 and LS2 platforms (MAF and MAF-less configurations)

VE - LS2, L98, L76, LS3 platforms (MAF and MAF-less, with supercharged variant)

VF - L77, LS3 platforms (6.0L and 6.2L V8)

Power Gains: Real Numbers

VCM has documented gains of up to 17.5 peak horsepower at the wheels on a stock vehicle, with up to 40hp gains in the upper RPM range. These figures are the result of development and dyno testing - not marketing estimates. When combined with a custom tune at BYE Performance to take full advantage of the improved airflow, the results are even more significant.

MAF vs. MAF-Less: Which Version Should You Choose?

The VCM OTR is available in MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor retained) and MAF-less (MAF sensor removed) configurations. For vehicles running the standard ECU, the MAF version is the correct choice. For vehicles running a standalone ECU or a tune that doesn't rely on MAF signal, the MAF-less version offers slightly improved flow. Our team at BYE Performance can advise on which configuration suits your setup.
